Street Art of Bangalore : A Photo Feature

A very interesting initiative by BBMP (Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike ) is turning the nondescript streets of Bangalore to a colorful palette showcasing all the things that make Karnataka such a spectacular state - cultural, geographical and ecological marvels.

These beautiful murals adorning the flyovers and underpasses are a welcome relief from the omnipresent traffic. Besides, this initiative has helped create employment for an art form which once thrived but now is a lost cause with the advent of digital media. Also this gives ample opportunity for people like me to shoot and so here it is -

    I agree.

    Also given the flight of birds and the fast depleting green cover... these paintings (and pictures) are all that'll remain... for the future generations...

    The best part of this is that the wall remains clean. Other wise there are N number of stickers and posters on it.

    ## Roshmi - true indeed. These paintings are also a nice way of documenting stuff. Wonder for how long they will last though..

    ## Mahesh - B'lore has gotten hotter since Metro construction and the felling of trees started. Maybe these two are connected after all! :(

    ## Joshi - really excellent initiative. Turns out Chennai also has similar paintings.. would be interesting to check out all the cities' graffiti.. :)

    ## Nalini - he he.. That exactly is one of the main reasons for this initiative. The same is written on these walls..but the point is how many men can actually read it.. ;)

    ## Nishant - yup, atleast some part of the city looks better. But somehow i feel like the city comes more alive after these paintings. :)

    Yes, it is a great initiative and has added color and form to the barren walls of our concrete jungle city.

    I keep noticing them more or less every day, but never get down to take any pictures.

    I am happy that you did and have shared it with the world. BTW, you have captured the essence and colors very well.

    ## Sankara - Thank you! Even I have been noticing these paintings near Marathallli/KR Puram of late but never got around capturing. But a friend tipped me off about the awesome paintings near Bangalore Palace. By then all i needed was an excuse to play with my new cam. :)
