30 Before 30! :)
Wednesday, April 04, 2012So the title gives away that I am not 30 yet. ;)
I have just few months and 3 years to accomplish things on this list. Not that this list would be my guiding light for the next few years, but since making a list is so much fun and striking things off the list is even more fun, I made this list. What do you think?
How many of these things do you think I will be able to complete? How many should be done? Any suggestions that I might add here? What's on your list if you have one? Don't worry if you are over 30, you can write your 35 before 35 or 40 before 40 lists!

Knowing your enthusiasm, Neelima, I feel sure that u can accomplish most of these within the next three years! all the very best!!!! and yes, this does make me want to make a 40 before 40 list..
ReplyDeleteThanks Anu, it will be wonderful if I can strike off anything more than 10 on this list. :)
DeleteDo make your 40 before 40 list. Would love to see it. :))
Suggestions to add -
ReplyDeleteRaft down the Amazon with as less help, support and ppl as possible.
I would keep that for 40 before 40! Let me get to Mongolia and Pakistan first! :)
DeleteThats a wonderful list!! All the best.
ReplyDeletehttp://rajniranjandas.blogspot.in/2012/04/conserve-wildlife.html
Thanks Niranjan!
DeleteGo for it! All the best..am still in a state of wonderment after hitting your blog yday...
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Thanks K!
Deletewow wonderful.. ur blogs makes me to think twice and explore the best before u get married.Thank you Neelima.
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound as if marriage is the end of life! :)
DeleteIf you think doing all this stuff after marriage is impossible, then it is equally impossible for a girl to do all this before marriage either!
There is always a way to make things happen, if you really want to do it. Don't give up on your dreams. :)
Point 20: Go to Pakistan, I want that too for the sole reason that K2 stands there. That monster of a mountain, I want to see it upfront.
ReplyDeleteI so want to go to Pakistan! First of all POK is so so beautiful and then it is Pakistan! If I ever venture there, will surely get a picture of K2 for you. :D
DeleteThere is loads of tourism and base camp hikes to the K2, the only thing that changes the equation is being an Indian. Fingers crossed is the way to go and yes get me a picture of K2 :D
DeleteI wonder, how much of a difference it makes, being an Indian. Hopefully will find out and live to tell the tale. :)
DeleteIt make a lot of difference to be Indian, You will not get Visa for Pakistan , but if you can get one please do share details ....
DeleteYou are awesome Neelima...purely because of your first item on your list :) Mongolia has been somewhere on the top of my list for so long, I would automatically like anyone who thinks like that :)
ReplyDeleteha ha, we are all in the same ship then! I have been wanting to go to Mongolia like since forever! :))
DeleteHi Neelima, I am usually a silent reader of your posts. I have become a fan of your exuberance. I feel myself lucky that I met you. All I would say at this point is that, one point which is there in my to do list is to go on an exciting trip with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks much Mukul, but I am sure there must be other exciting things on your list. I always don't have exciting trips, maybe I just write about the exciting stuff! ;)
DeleteLearning how to swim and go couchsurfing are also on my list of things to do before I die! Alas, I am deathly afraid of water and all my attempts to learn to stay afloat have failed, and I'm too shy to go couchsurfing in the home of a perfect stranger. Hopefully, I still have lots of years left to try and tick these things off my list!
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way you do about couchsurfing and water. Hopefully both of us will get over it soon. Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteWow, I love your list, Neelima, and the stuff you've already ticked off it! Waiting to see what goes off by 30 :) Goodie luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shivya, now that I have the list, have to start working towards it. Hopefully I'll learn how to swim at least now. ;)
DeleteI see that you have moved to your own domain, good move. :)
Great list there. You surely can knock em all off before 30. Time to write you bucket list too. We have some in common. Mine's over here. http://runnareshrun.blogspot.com/p/bucket-list.html
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing, when I strike-off something, I add at least two new items to the list.
ha ha, thanks for your confidence. Hopefully I will be able to. :)
DeleteI make sure not to add anymore to the list. If I want to do something else, I will, but not add in the list. ;)
My suggestion for 24. Walk on a frozen lake. Why just a lake when you can do it on an entire frozen river? The Chader trek beckons :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, yea, could do that as well. But walking all over a lake should be fun. ;)
DeleteVery very nice stuff! I sincerely hope you get to do it. And once you have, would love to hear your stories.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Thanks Sankara, can't wait to tell the stories! ;)
DeleteAwesome.. but I just wonder how could u manage doing all these?
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you when I'm done! :)
DeleteNow, you'd give me an inspiration
ReplyDeleteGlad to be of help! :)
DeleteHey Neelima
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure going through ur blog..truly so. Got introduced to ur blog by a friend and its like best thing to read (especially at times when i'm in the middle of a crazy deadline at worrk..super frustrated and that's when it motivates me even more to chase my own desires)...Have always had in the back of my mind things to do before die..but 30 before 30 is an amazing concept..its like u need a short term goal to support ur long term vision or else its all a fallacy.
Ulan bataar and 100 strangers project were alien to me till now...glad i bumped into this blog. But Pakistan is one place i want to visit since forever..have missed a close chance already. Inshallah, i shall make it soon.
P.S: Thanks again for sharing the lovely concept..would love to meet u in person someday and even plan visit to Pakistan together:)
Keep sharing!!!
-Priyanka
I figured I need a list to remember the never ending list of things I want to do, hence the list. :)
DeleteI am really glad you enjoyed reading through my blog. Here's wishing both of us visit Pakistan someday!
I am so happy to encounter your page on facebook through which I have rekindled my love to travel... But I think I am not as passionate as you though I live in Bangalore as well. I always like to travel with my friends but I don't get to do that since most are busy with their corporate worlds now. I am happy to read all your posts since it feels like I can travel as well.... Thanks for inspiring
ReplyDeleteGlad you stumbled across my blog! Hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy writing these. :)
DeleteAnd I know what you mean when you say friends are always busy to take time for travel, even I experienced the same. But it doesn't have to be that way. If you really want to travel, there are a lot of clubs doing group travel and they are quite fun too. Plus the added bonus is meeting new and like minded people. Here's wishing more travels to you.
Good going, Neelima.
ReplyDeleteI've done a few things from your list and many others which do not appear here.
It's good to make a list & visit it from time to time.
I haven't made any list as I felt it'll restrict me from doing other things which are not part of it.
And yes, I've also crossed from one country to another on foot..... many times. And Pakistan is in my list as well. :)
All the best for your future endeavors. You are a brave woman.
Errr.... how do I subscribe to comments here?
Thanks for your comment Nisha!
DeleteConsidering the number of travelers who want to visit Pakistan from India, we should all form a group and make that dream come true. Many people do feel making a list might limit one to the things in the list, but I see it as a reminder to all the things that have to be done. Meanwhile I am having other awesome experiences too, but to tell you the truth, it is awesome fun to strike things off! But if not a to-do list, it must be fun to make a done list as well. ;)
I'd love to hear about how you crossed countries on foot! Was it by road or trek? I know I put that point in my list but I had no idea how or why I wanted to do that.
Comments can be subscribed using the "Subscribe by email" link right below the comment box.
And I am not brave at all, always scare myself silly! :D
Inspiring list .... copying many items for my 30 before 30. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteSure, please do! :)
DeleteHi Neelima,
ReplyDeleteGreat going .....Its a delight to read ur travel stories and beutiful pictures....
Wow thing is, its so original and fresh!! :)
Ur wishlist is something when I read....."OMG" is the word which kept on striking 3o times, i read ur 30 wishes ......:D
Greatest part is OMG is also related becoz most of ur wishes strikes with my wishes too...
How about witnessing a live Volcano :)
U simply ROCK!!
keep up.....(wish to meet u sometime in person)
Thanks Nisha! It really helps to make a list to keep the goals in sight. The next list will be much more crazier than this one. :)
DeleteIf you are around Bangalore sometime, drop me a line. We can catch up!
Your list is as offbeat as your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my recommendations for 23 on your list is Tongba. Since, you harbor a love for the Himalayas you should be coming across this amazing drink sometime soon (if not already).
Stumbled upon your website sometime ago and I wanted to let you know that you have been an inspiration for folks like me who are taking their baby steps towards travel writing.
Wish you Happy Wanderings!
Cheers!
I will keep your suggestion in mind about Tongba neat time I visit Himalayas! :)
DeleteAll the best with your efforts and happy travels to you too!
I see you have striked off "cross one country to another on foot". Have you complete it or not as there is no answer after that. Asking because I have something to suggest! :)
ReplyDeleteI did cross from one country from another on foot in Nagaland but you can still suggest! :)
DeleteOh ohk. I was going to suggest Thailand to Cambodia road trip where you change buses on the border and thus travel border on foot! :)
DeleteHi Neelima,
ReplyDeleteVisited your blog after a long time and stumbled on this post.
2 things common from the list i think are-- Pakistan & Swimming. Hope we do it asap..
This post of yours definitely inspired me to make my list ..
Thanks Phani. Do post a link here if you have made your list and all the best with crossing things off that list. :)
DeleteDefinitely will post link once i come up with it :)
DeleteOne suggestion -- For the items you crossed off, please link if there's any related post. For Ex: i was curious to know which country you crossed by foot, which 6000 m peak etc ..
Yes Phani, that's the plan. One of these days. :)
DeleteUntil then, I unofficially crossed in Burma and summitted Stok Kangri here in India.
Hey Neelima.. that crossing into Burma... Was it thru Mizoram ? Or Nagaland ?
DeleteNagaland, near Lungwa village.
DeleteHi Neelima,
ReplyDeleteGot introduced to your blog by a friend. Very IMPRESSIVE! Now, when you do that Pakistan trip, please do count me in. My grandparents migrated during the 1947 division and I'd love to visit.
Best,
Jyothi
Glad you found this blog interesting! :)
DeleteI don't know when or how I will be able to take that trip to Pakistan, but it is a dream of mine to see the Himalayas and Kashmir of Pakistan.
So your grandparents migrated from Pakistan to India?
Surfing in the sea without knowing swimming is it possible? Please let me know where you surfed?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Well, kind of, yes. I tried surfing without knowing swimming only, was freaked out but the lifejacket helped. :)
DeleteHi Neelima..... First of all Cheersssss to you for bringing up this list.... The reason im commenting here is few of your wish list matches mine :)

cheesyme211@gmail.com
He he, no way!
DeleteI see you want to couchsurf :) What's the situation now? Gone for it, or going soon? (It's really awesome! I couchsurfed a lot recently, and I can't stop raving about it!!)
ReplyDeleteHaven't done it yet, I still have some more time. Will have to try it out soon, of course I will be taking tips from you when I do. :)
DeleteIf you ever manage to get to Pakistan, let me know how!
ReplyDeleteFantastic list. I am sure you are going to tick allof this off.
I hope I get to cross Pakistan off my list, that would be EPIC!
